"There's no such thing as Santa Clause,
silly!" That's what Holly's cousin Tara had said.
Being only 6, and Tara being 10, Holly wanted to disagree, but she couldn't.
Five year olds weren't supposed to fight with older children. That was wrong.
"Then who brings the presents?
Hhhhhhhhmmmmmmm?" she smartly replied. "Duh! Your parents of course!" Tara
had stuck her tongue out. That’s when Holly stopped believing. When she
got to upper grades at school, they just laughed and giggled when the little
kids started talking about Santa Claus coming to their houses. The little
children looked at them strangely and asked why they were making fun of them.
"Because there’s no such thing as that old Bag Santee Clause."
Chantelle, the most popular person in the whole school would announce, and
then walk away cackling with the whole grade 5 following her, leaving the
little kindergartners and grade oners standing there heartbroken. Holly was
starting to think about Christmas a lot. There was definitely no money to buy
gifts in their family. They lived in a little French community with houses
called 'Favelas'. She didn't know a lot of French, but she could still talk
with the neighbours sometimes still. |
|
Then came one day when something just went
wrong. Every bank in their area had been robbed or set to fire. Everyone's
money was lost. Then houses were robbed too. Everything was going wrong.
That’s when everyone was relocating to a town nobody had heard of. |
|
Then one Christmas, the families had nothing.
There were no families with any money. There was little food. Christmas eve
came and nobody was excited. There would be no presents with no money. |
|
Christmas morning came. Holly woke up at 2 in
the morning. She heard something outside. She went out to see what it was. A
heavy figure was on the roof. "Sssshhhhh!" He called out and then
hopped down from the roof. "Give these to your family." He told her
and flew off. Santa Clause. It was a miracle. And Tara was a liar. She ran
inside and woke up her family and showed them outside just in time to see a
sleigh fly through the night sky. After opening the presents, she thought to
herself, "There is such things as miracles. And there’s such thing as
anything, even though you can't see it. And there is a Santa Clause. |
